Kmart have released a wire storage cube system, that many people are using as guinea pig and bunny enclosures.
Similar to the regular 35cm sized C&C type cages that can be purchased from guinea pig accessory suppliers here in Australia, these however, are different in three ways.
- The overall size of the wire grid is 30cm
- They are only available in black
- There are only 7 squares on the grids
Caution: As the gaps within the Kmart grids are larger than the bigger grids have (35cm with 9 squares) please consider this factor if you have small guinea pigs. They’ll wriggle thru, they could get stuck trying.
So overall, they go together the same, the connectors work the same, and they lend themselves to be a versatile, cheaper alternative to the more common ones. These sets cost around $30AUD and contain 20 grids.
Here at Deano, we do not stock the grids or connectors – we have a custom sized range of washable fleece cage liners that will fit these cages.
How the sizing works:
To build the grid cage, you will either need to cable tie the grids end to end (which will mean there is no space inbetween) – or if you use the connectors provided, there will be around 1cm gap in between the grids once assembled.
So, I have developed the range to be calculated as each grid being 31cm (grid plus 1cm gap) as grids are joined and overall sizes are known, you can choose the liner to fit your constructed cage.
These will have a prefix KM, followed by the size: ie a 4×2 grid cage would be KM4x2, the size 62cm x 124cm
As demand dictates, other sizes can be added to the range.
FLEECE OPTIONS: Each liner has two sides, a front and back – so you can choose two fleece options for each liner. Patterns and plains all cost the same, so feel free to have two patterns, two plains, or a mix of both.
The liners will be made a few cm larger than the quoted sizes, to allow a relaxed fit, and a little shrinkage.
